Sugar used to be promoted nearly as a health force, a fine source of essential "food energy (common phrase) and downright wholesome.   Look at that small picture of the sugar scoop pouring used to connote nourishing goodness!  Still love this ad.

I realize these juices probably tasted mostly of the cans they were sold in, but those pretty fruit back there improve the flavor.

Del Monte juice ads never seemed to try as hard Libby's and Dole to make their ads knockouts, but this one's nice, despite an faintly ominous background.  It's from 1961, right about when illustration quality began to drop precipitously.
